WHO ARE WE?
After its founding general meeting on 21st September 1951, the " Ordre Universel des Chevaliers du Cep " ("The Universal Order of the Knights of the Vine Plant") aims at easing the cre ation of circles in France as well as abroad.
In the fifties, the founder of the Order wanted to bring together the persons who united Wine and Civilisation, Wine and Culture, Wine and Friendship, Wine and Conviviality, those who saw the wine not only as a drink but as the expression of the one thousand years old genius of men, the true product of a reflection at the same time over the functioning of nature and the clever way of using it to raise the level of awareness of land cycles, to come to the mere notion of human existence.
Today, the aim is to put in touch people passionately fond of the wine world in order to share their experience, their skills and their information, to organise convivial events, receptions of members from other national or international organisations aiming at the same objectives.
The "Ordre Universel des Chevaliers du Cep", which still have its administrative headquarters in the Parc des expositions of Fréjorgues, in Montpellier (France), never stop existing even if during some periods its activity was slightly reduced. Yet, one appointment has almost always been maintained: the Great Chapter of Autumn at the occasion of the International Fair of Montpellier during which numerous important persons have been proclaimed "Chevaliers" (Knights).
Since two years, the Order, has been working on its revival especially by creating "Circles", beginning with its reunion with some brotherhoods coming from the Order which, during all these years, have led their crusades through the world such as In Japan, in the United States, in Russia or in Finland.
Other " Circles " are in construction in Tunisia, in Morocco or in Brazil, without forgetting every French city where, professionals and amateurs, can participate in the Crusade of the Order, either by creating a "Circle", or by joining the "Mother Circle" in Montpellier, universal capital of the wine and vine.
By some months, each of these future "Circles" will have a "blog" space on the Internet that they will use to give life to their activities and interact among themselves. On its own, the "Ordre Universel" will propose each quarter, on the blogs of its circles as a whole, a reflection theme of which the Order will then summarise. This sum up will be sent to the responsible persons for the wine-growing and wine-producing sector and to the specialised press of each country.
In that way, the "Ordre Universel des Chevaliers du Cep" is then different from a traditional wine brotherhood which would defend a particular wine.
Its aim, more universal, is to bring together people who share its values and want to bring their contribution to the crusade for the defence of a kind of art of living and culture. (www.chevaliers-du-cep.com)
